Bargarh Dhanuyatra 2011: The World’s Biggest Open Air Theatre (December 29, 2011 – January 08, 2012)

[vslider name=”dhanuyatra”]
Bargarh Dhanuyatra is celebrated for eleven days in the month of ‘Pausa’ every year. The festival begins with enactment of the grand wedding of Devaki and Basudeva, then traces the birth and childhood of Shri Krishna, and ends with the death of Kansa.

After India got Independence on 15th August 1947, people from every nook and corner of the country celebrated. Bargarh was no exception. To remember the Independence of India for all time to come began the World’s biggest open air theatre – Dhanuyatra, in 1948. The celebration of Indian Independence and victory over unjust British rule, symbolically shows through the victory of Lord Krishna, who personifies truth, justice and righteousness over Kansa who personifies arrogance and wickedness.
