Paradeep is one of the major ports of India and is the main out-let and in-let of the sea-borne trade of the eastern part of the country spread over States such as Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. The natural resources and industrial products of this wide spread hinterland are immense and the value of the mineral trade of the country passing through the Port of Paradeep is considerably higher than many other major ports of India.
Paradeep, a modern deep water port, was built in the 1960s, and has now become a hot business destination due to the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India as POSCO is setting up a plant along with its own port for transportation. Indian Oil Corporation has been trying to set up an oil refinery also. Paradeep is a major sea port for trade activities. - Temple of Baladeva
65-km from Cuttack this is an important pilgrim centre at Kendrapara, known as ‘Tulasi Kshetra’. It is famous for the temple of Lord Baladeva.
- Bhitarkanika National Park
Bhitarkanika National Park, sprawled over 367 sq km, is home to variety of animals. The exciting forest is covered by mangrove forests, criss-crossed by rivers and creeks.
- Gahirmatha beach
Known for crocodiles, sea turtles and water monitor lizards, Gahirmatha beach has rare white crocodiles. It is also a Park for deer and migratory birds.
The district is also famous for having the most no of successful theater groups which has helped in keeping the old tradition of live acting before crowd.The theater groups have become the part of mainstream entertainment for people all over Odisha.
