Anu Chowdhury was born on August 30, 1978 in Khurda district of Odisha. Anu Graduated in Information Technology before commencing a career as a film actress. Anu’s first film in Odia was “Badhu Nirupama” as a child artist. The film was based upon the popular Odia novel “Badhu Nirupama” by notable Odia writer Bibhuti Patnaik. Later she was spotted by the leading directors of Odia Film Industry. She made her debut as a heroine in “Maa Gojabayani” and impressed everyone with her spectacular performance.
There was no looking back after that and Anu acted in movies like “Maa O Mamata”, “Mana Rahigala Tumari Thare” and “Gare Sindura Dhare Luha” soon after the success of “Maa Gojabayani”. She also had an impressive performance in Sushant Mishra’s award winning movie “Biswaprakash”, which was a part of Indian Panorama and was adjudged as the best regional film in Odia.
Anu was adjudged Best Actress in the Orissa State Film Awards ceremony for her role in Rajshri Production’s maiden Odia venture “Sasughara Chalijibi” in 2007. Later, she won the Best Actress Award in the 4th Cine India International Film Festival, Noida for her role in “Kathantar”, in which she was potrayed as a second generation refugee from East Bengal. The beauty with a brain, has successfully established herself not only in Odia Film Industry, but also in the heart of Odia people. On December 30, 2007, Anu won the Best Actress Award at the “Chalachhitra Jagat Pratibha Samman – 2007” for her performance in the Odia movie “Lal Tuku Tuku Sadhaba Bahu.”
Besides Odia, Anu has also acted in Bengali, Telugu, Chattisgarhi and Hindi films. Her debut Hindi movie “Nirvana 13” directed by Jitin Rawat, starring Sandeep Kulkarni, brought her the Best Actress Award in Los Angeles Movie Awards. She was the only Indian actress selected for this award in the year 2011.
