Biswanath Das was born on March 08, 1889 in Belagan village of Ganjam district. He was a great Politician, Freedom Fighter, able Statesman and excellent Administrator. He was the Prime Minister of Odisha province during the time of British rule (1937-1939). After Independence he became the Governor of Uttar Pradesh (1962-1967) and later Chief Minister of Odisha (1971-1972).
In his early days he was educated in Victoria High School, Cuttack which is now known as Bhakta Madhu Vidyapitha. After his school, he went to Ravenshaw College and graduated in Calcutta University. He was greatly influenced by the leader and lawyer, Madhusudan Das and joined as a junior advocate under him. Later he went to Berhampur and started his legal practices independently. His interest in politics and leadership transformed him into a great political leader. He died on June 2, 1984 in Cuttack, but his simple living and high thinking has left a foot print in this land of Odisha.
