CM Shri Naveen Patnaik with IPS probationers of the State at Secretariat on ThursdayShri Naveen Patnaik is the current Chief Minister of Odisha. He was born on October 16, 1946 in Cuttack district. His father Biju Patnaik was a great freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Odisha. He went to Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun to complete his primary studies. Then he got admitted to Doon School and obtained his Senior Cambridge Certificate from there. After completing secondary studies, he moved to Delhi University to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Arts.

He spent his early life as a writer and stayed away from politics as well as Odisha but after the death of his father he entered politics. A year later he founded Biju Janta Dal, which won the state elections in alliance with the Bharatiya Janta Party in the year 2000 with Naveen Patnaik as the Chief Minister. His mild nature and standing against corruption has won the heart of people of Odisha. During his term as a Chief Minister, Odisha developed in field of science, technology and economy like never before. In 2009 elections, BJD broke the tie-up with BJP still won a resounding victory, bagging 14 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats and 103 of the 147 assembly seats.

He has written three books namely, ‘A Second Paradise’, ‘A Desert Kingdom’ and ‘The Garden of Life’.
