Baneswarnasi is a small beautiful hill on the bank of river Mahanadi. It is situated in Champeswar village, near Narsinghpur in Cuttack district. This place is significant for archaeological relics. Many sculptures, stupas, Shivlings and other icons of 8th century have been found dispersed around the hillock. The ancient remains of this place signifies that this was an important Buddhist establishment in medieval Odisha. Different plastic images of goddess Tara, found in this place, shows the existence of plastic art in Odisha. The important archaeological images found in this place were taken to Odisha State Museum, Bhubaneswar and Patna Museum, Bihar for preservation and display.
