The District Nuapada came into existence on April 1, 1993, by carving out of undivided Kalahandi district.

The district enjoys an annual rainfall of 1,230 mm and has a maximum and minimum temperature of 48 degree Celsius and 30 degree Celsius respectively.

Geographical Location
Nuapada is located between 20° 0′ North to 21° 25′ North Latitude and 82 ° 20′ East to 82° 40′ East Longitude. The district covers a total geographical area of 3408 sq. km with its administrative headquarters located at Nuapada. The rank of the district is 19 th in the state with reference to area. Its boundaries extend in the North, West and south to Raipur district in Madhya Pradesh and in the East to Bargarh, Balangir and Kalahandi districts.

Nuapada ‘Nawapara’ is the nearest railway junction from the district headquarter town Nuapada that is located at a distance of 3 km. Most of the express train stop at Khariar Road located at a distance of 10 km from Nuapada.

The district is also very well connected by roadways. It is connected with NH-217 and SH-3.

The nearest Airport is at Raipur, Chattisgarh, that is located at a distance of 120 km.
