Loknath Temple

Loknath temple is situated in Puri, nearly 1km away from Jagannath temple. People believe that this temple was established in 11th century A.D by Lord Rama. This temple is built to pay homage to Lord Shiva. Myths are there that the lingam of the temple was established by Lord Rama with the help of a pumpkin.

People from far away places come to this temple to have a glimpse of Lord Loknath. It is widely believed that Lord Loknath has the power to cure all kinds of diseases. Prayers to him can cure a person from any kind of problem related to health.

The shivlingam of this temple always remain inside water. It is said that goddess Ganga flows over the head of this lingam and so it is always submerged in water. The main festival of this temple is Saranti Sombar Mela.

Loknath temple of Puri is at a distance of about 60 kms from Bhubaneswar and 40 kms from Konark. One can get a direct bus from Bhubaneswar to reach there. Direct trains from major cities like Kolkata, New Delhi, Tirupati and Ahmedabad are also available.
