Jharsuguda Transport Network

Jharsuguda, in western Odisha, serves as an important industrial and transportation hub of the state. Air, rail, and road networks connect the town well, making it a key gateway to western Odisha. The Veer Surendra Sai Airport, also known as Jharsuguda Airport, functions as a domestic aviation hub in Jharsuguda. Located around 5 km (3.1 miles) northeast of the city centre, the airport stands near Durlaga village, roughly 8.5 km (5.3 miles) from Jharsuguda Junction Railway Station. It provides regular flights to major Indian cities such as Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, operated by airlines like IndiGo and Alliance Air.

Rail transport in Jharsuguda plays an equally significant role. The South Eastern Railway zone manages the major junction, Jharsuguda Junction Railway Station, which links the town to important cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Bhubaneswar. This connection makes it an important interchange point for both passenger and freight trains. Nearby stations such as Jharsuguda Road and Belpahar further strengthen the district’s rail network. Major national highways such as NH 49 and NH 69, along with State Highway 10 (now part of the Biju Expressway), pass through or near the district, linking it to key cities and industrial hubs across the region. OSRTC and private operators run regular bus services that link Jharsuguda to cities like Sambalpur, Rourkela, Raigarh, and Raipur. Within the town, local transport such as the Ama Bus service, autos, and taxis make commuting convenient. Jharsuguda’s well-developed transport network plays a vital role in supporting its growing industries and regional connectivity.
