Nayagarh district boasts a strong, reliable, and steadily improving transport network that ensures seamless connectivity with major cities across Odisha and neighboring regions. An efficient combination of road, rail, and air transport makes travel convenient for residents, traders, and visitors alike, supporting economic growth and regional integration.

Road Connectivity

Nayagarh is strategically located about 87 km from the state capital, Bhubaneswar, and 67 km from Khurda Town. The town lies along National Highway NH-57, which serves as a vital arterial route connecting coastal Odisha with the western parts of the state. Regular bus services operate from Bhubaneswar, Balangir, and several other towns, ensuring frequent and affordable public transport options.

The district is well-connected through a network of National Highways (NH), State Highways (SH), Major District Roads (MDR), and Other District Roads (ODR). Prominent State Highways include: SH-01 (Phulbani–Nayagarh–Khurda), SH-21 (Nayagarh–Odagaon–Laukhal) Other important routes such as the Daspalla–Bhanjanagar stretch (part of SH-37) and the Baghamari–Gania–Daspalla road, further strengthen intra-district and inter-district connectivity. Ongoing road upgrades and proposed bypasses aim to reduce congestion and enhance travel efficiency.

Rail Connectivity

Nayagarh currently has rail access through Nayagarh Town Railway Station (NYGT), which is primarily served by passenger and MEMU services. Regular trains connect Nayagarh with Khurda Road Junction (near Bhubaneswar) and nearby regions, including services such as Khurda Road–Nayagarh Town Passenger and MEMU Express services from Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak. The nearest major railhead is Khurda Road Railway Station, located approximately 69 km away, offering extensive connections to major cities across India. Rail connectivity in the region is undergoing a major transformation with the Khurda Road–Balangir Railway Line, a strategically significant project linking eastern and western Odisha.

Air Connectivity

Nayagarh District does not have its own airport; however, Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, located approximately 87 km away, serves as the nearest air transit hub. The airport offers frequent domestic flights to major Indian cities as well as international connectivity, facilitating convenient long-distance travel. The journey from Nayagarh to the airport generally takes around two hours by road.

Local Transportation

Local transportation within Nayagarh town and surrounding areas is efficient and diverse. Cycle rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and e-rickshaws serve as the primary modes of short-distance travel. The Ama Bus Service provides reliable public transport between rural and urban areas, while private taxis and trekkers operate throughout the district, offering flexible and comfortable travel options.
