Joranda, located in the Dhenkanal district of Odisha, is the spiritual center of Mahima Dharma, a unique religious tradition rooted in the principles of simplicity, equality, and devotion to the formless divine. Situated about 25 km from Dhenkanal town, Joranda is best known for its iconic Sunya Mandira (Empty Temple), a sacred place of worship that symbolizes the rejection of idol worship and the belief in the eternal, formless presence of the Divine. The town comes alive during the annual Joranda Mela, celebrated on Magha Purnima, usually in the month of February, at Mahimagadi, the principal seat of Mahima Dharma.

This grand spiritual gathering attracts thousands of devotees and visitors from across Odisha and beyond. One of the festival’s most significant rituals is the lighting of a magnificent 12-foot holy fire, symbolizing spiritual enlightenment, universal harmony, and world peace.The Joranda Mela is primarily observed by followers of Alekh Mahima and Mahima Dharma, who gather to offer prayers, participate in religious discourses, and celebrate their faith with deep devotion. The festival is marked by a unique blend of spirituality, cultural traditions, and community fellowship, creating an atmosphere of reverence, joy, and togetherness.
