The temple of ‘Budhi Thakurani’ stands on one side of Sunasagad hill, which is the heart of Angul town. Goddess Budhi Thakurani, the presiding deity of Angul, is worshipped in the form of a stone icon made up of black granite. Devotees cover the idol with vermillion. The temple attracts a lot of crowds who flock in from different places for a “darshan” of the Goddess. The visitors can visit the temple barring the timing from 9.00 PM to 5.00 AM. Angul has earned celebrity status as a Sakta Centre since the 8th Century A.D. with the rise of the Sulkies on its soil.
