Angul

Angul came into existence on April 01, 1993. The late Chief Minister of Odisha, Mr Biju Patnaik, formally formed this district out of the former undivided Dhenkanal district. The district covers a geographical area of about 6232 square km and has a population of about 11.40 lakhs. Angul, a centrally located district in the State of Odisha, is rich in flora and fauna, being covered by dense green forests and hosting various specimens of wildlife.

1. Budhi Thakurani
The temple of ‘Budhi Thakurani’ stands on one side of Sunasagad hill, which is the heart of Angul town. Goddess Budhi Thakurani, the presiding deity of Angul, is worshipped in the form of a stone icon made up of black granite. 
2. Saila Shrikshetra
Saila Shrikshetra, an extravagant temple complex on Sunasagada Hill top at Angul, is the hub centre of tourists throughout the year. The main temple has Mukhasala, Jagamohan, Natyamandir and a Garvagriha.
3. Deulajhari
Situated at a distance of 90 km from the headquarters town, Angul, Deulajhari is a unique place as it lies in the vicinity of dense indigenous-jasmine forest (locally known as Kiabana). It stands as the high walls around the temple. 
4. Rengali
Rengali dam and reservoir lie at a distance of about 70 km from the district headquarters town, Angul, on NH-250, along the River Brahmani. One Hydroelectric power project of 120 MW capacity has been installed here.
5. Bhimakand
This place is of significant importance because of the sleeping image of Lord Vishnu, which is the second-largest image (in size) in India. You will find it at Bhimakand village on the right bank of the river Brahmani, 50 km from Angul. The image sleeps on its right side.
6. Tikarpada 
The tiny village of Tikarpada lies at a distance of 58 km from Angul. The village offers some of the most exciting visuals of the Satkosia Gorge, India’s mightiest gorge, into which the turbulent Mahanadi River crashes with amazing ferocity through 22 km of emerald forests, which seem to change their hues with every bend of the river’s meanderings.
