Balasore
Chandaneswar
A drive of 90 km to the North of Balasore takes us to the holy shrine of Lord Chandaneswar, a religious center for the people of not only the district of Balasore, but also of the adjacent places. Here, hundreds of devotees flock every day. Even the festival occasions like Nila Shasti, Shiva Ratri, and the famous Chadak Jatra pull in a lot of crowds. The ex-rulers of Nilgiri state used Sajanagarh as a military base. It is a religious centre. The magnificent 14th-century A.D. temple of Bhadra Chandi is one of the most frequently visited religious places, and it is also the main attraction of the place.
Artists carved beautiful stone works of legendary Gods and Goddesses on the walls of both the temple and its boundary.
