The presence of the Jagannath Temple gives Nilagiri its spiritual significance. People recognize it as the third Shrikshetra. The main temple and Jagamohana reflect the classic Kalinga style of architecture. We worship Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshan, and other deities, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Bhudevi, Sridevi, and Bimala on the Ratnavedi inside the sanctum sanctorum. King Ramachandra Deva Mardajar Harichandan built it in 1750 AD. People celebrate the Ratha Jatra here, drawing thousands of devotees.

The towering height of the chariot is a key highlight of the festival. Nilagiri Shri Jagannath Mandir remains one of the top spiritual and tourist destinations in the Balasore district. Apart from that, people also know Nilagiri for the Nilagiri Palace. The Nilagiri King’s Palace and the Royal Garden stand near the Jagannath Temple. During the British Period, Nilagiri Prasad was playing a vital role in the Rule of the State.
