Deomali Hills

Deomali, the highest peak in Odisha, is a major centre of attraction for tourists and nature lovers. Located about 60–70 km from Koraput near Barabandha village in the Kotia Panchayat division via Semiliguda, the peak rises to a height of approximately 1,762 metres. Dense forests and rich biodiversity surround the Deomali hill range, which is known for its mineral resources such as bauxite and limestone, along with deep valleys, flowing brooks, and scenic waterfalls.

The region is home to several tribal communities, including the Kandhas, Parajas, Bhumia, Malis, and Bhotias. Deomali also draws adventure enthusiasts for activities like trekking, mountaineering, and hang gliding. Recent initiatives by the Odisha Tourism Department, such as improved road connectivity, hilltop amenities, watchtowers, and six designated viewpoints, have further enhanced its appeal. The nearby Putsil Valley, part of the Deomali Mountain Range, adds to the breathtaking scenic beauty of the area.
