Nrusinghanath Temple

Nrusinghanath is a renowned destination in the district, located within the former Borasambar Kingdom, which is currently the Padampur Sub-division. Situated 150 km from the district headquarters, the Sri Sri Nrusinghanath temple lies at the foot of the Gandhamardan Mountain, which reaches an elevation of approximately 3,234 feet. The temple was constructed by Baijaldev, the 8th Chauhan King of Patna, a fact documented by an inscription on one of its stone walls. Within this site, which is enveloped by remarkable natural scenery, Lord Vishnu is revered in the form of Marjara Keshari. Recognizing its significance, the Government of Odisha has officially designated this location as a tourist spot.

Beyond its religious importance, the site serves as a historical testament to the cultural and spiritual integration of tribal and non-tribal populations, as well as the blending of Buddhism, Tantrism, Vaishnavism, and Saivism. Held at the Nrusinghanath Temple from Triyodasi to Purnima during the month of Baisakh, this fair (mela) coincides with Nrusingha Janma and is also referred to as the Narsingh Chaturdashi Mela. The event consistently draws a vast multitude of pilgrims.
