The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Gokarneswar. It is believed to be one of the oldest traditional temples in Odisha, known for its deep cultural and religious roots. The main festival celebrated here is Mahashivaratri, when the temple is filled with devotees. During the holy month of Sawan, many Kawarias come here as part of the Kawad Yatra, carrying sacred water to offer to the Lord.
